Wet again for our last day in Lisbon – the October rains are early the taxi driver says. Rode the inner city tram again partly to escape the rain but also to enjoy the narrow alleys, variety of tile work, quirky shops and lovely old buildings again. Good to see lots of restoration work happening and that big companies like Starbucks are renovating these glorious old buildings for their businesses – impressive and much more exciting than the bland buildings we have at home.
The Alfama area is particularly interesting and known for it’s Fado Halls – the typical Spanish music. Apparently sardines are the dish of the day here but we didn’t try these.
Lisbon Airport is huge – found a fabulous toy store once we were through departure procedures. Happily spent time and money there! Walked quite some way to departure gate only to board a bus and go back the same way and some distance more to find our plane parked way around the back somewhere. Good flight to London – bus to terminal again. Very impressed to find luxury handcream available in the ladies room at LHR.
Cant wait to find an airport somewhere who manages passport control well – ie. enough staff to process lines efficiently and without numerous “s” bends!!
