Treading The Strip

Woke to a fabulous day, great views of the surrounding hills round the valley where Las Vegas sits and a very quiet scene below. Huge change in activity from last night. Brunched and then took to exploring. Got hotter and hotter as day wore on so navigated via hotels and air conditioned spaces. Hotels line the Boulevard &  most are themed, huge with maze-like walkways through varying shops, slot machine areas, sports bars, casinos, impressive displays, accomodation, restaurants and people. We only saw a fraction but  examples are

  • The Palazzo and The Venetian, Grand Canal Shoppes, outdoor ceiling, quarter mile long canal with gondoliers and singing as if in Venice.
  • Caesars Palace  and Forum  – shops – huge covered areas, circular escalators, shops of every kind and label – ceiling painted like sky makes it look like its outside, impressive reproductions of statues & scenes plus the Atlantis Show -free
  • The Bellagio – more elegant style  with beautiful conservatory, floral animals and talking tree plus of course the landmark fountains – comprising apparently 1,000 fountains jets – 1/2 hourly coreographed display with music and lights at night.

Then there are the copies of world landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and The London Eye. All in all hard to describe, a little OTT but a great place to explore. Reckon they need a decent kiwi cafe and coffee establishment pronto! Tonight we enjoyed a Cirque Du Soleil show “Mystere” at Treasure Island one of the original hotels here. So many shows to choose from and lots of variety!!! Shops are fabuous – just as well we have limited space! Feet feel well walked.
