Mastered the subway and had a quick wander round Raffles Square before heading to the Marina Bay area and the gardens.
First stop was Marina Bay Sands Hotel – 3 towers. Very impressive – curved facade and 57 floors (55 of hotel then Skypark and pool etc). Pretty amazing. We didn’t pay to go up to the viewing deck. Had lunch on the ground floor!
Next stop was Gardens By The Bay - pretty cool overview of these from the hotels, but on the ground very impressive. Gardens set up to showcase best of horticultural, sustainable and archectectural designs – very diverse plant life and numerous individual gardens. Could easily spend whole day here and possibly need to if you want to see it all.
The key features are two huge cooled conservatories with The Flower Dome (2015 Guiness Record for largest glass greenhouse) and Cloud Forest, towering vertical gardens, world’s tallest indoor waterfall- 35m, heritage gardens and “Supertree Grove”. Also large audio-visual and information posts about sustainability etc- all very interesting. Also interesting “lego” flowers – see thumbnail above.
Free entry except for two conservatories and skywalk above Supertrees. We had dinner at Pollen in the Flower Dome – British/Asian cuisine restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Josh Atheron. As you would expect very good indeed – we weren’t really dressed for the occasion but wanted to stay for the “Garden Rhapsody” lightshow – audio and visual effects in Supertree Grove – well worth wait.
