Cruising the Inside Passage

Today was a sea day cruising the Inside Passage, a network of passages weaving through the islands on the Pacific Coast of North America. We woke to pretty scenes of wooded hillsides running down to the water with an occasional house and little fishing boat to be seen. At times the water was like glass, later developing to a slight swell and a little roll. The afternoon was mostly sea fog with zero view but largely in an open space of ocean anyway.

The term “Inside Passage”  is also sometimes called the “Inland Passage” which harks back to early explorers’ trying to locate a northwest passage between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

Ships use the route to avoid some of the bad weather in the open ocean and sometimes visit the isolated communities along the route. The Inside Passage was very quiet today, not many ships to be seen. We are heading for Ketchikan tomorrow. The weather appears to be clearing!

  1. Super commentary. Good to see some ‘human’ pics too. Not sure if you are celebrating a northern or southern hemisphere birthday – maybe do it twice! Whatever Happy Happy Birthday.
